Break & Rake Window
with Burglar Bar

Shown: the Pull Window variation of the Break & Rake Window. This window can still be utilized for prying, rebar cutting, and blowing out the window and sash but it is ALSO set up so that the frame can be pulled out of its brackets by a tactical vehicle with their respective equipment. Shown here is a SWAT Bearcat using a tow strap to train personnel how to pull the window.

Our Window vs. The Rook

Not all law enforcement agencies have a Rook at their disposal for breaching. For those who do, our breaching windows act as a great prop to train your personnel on using the Rook effectively while engaging on a window. For those who do not have a Rook, the following evolution proves the Break & Rake’s durability in handling such a breaching evolution.

Break & Rake Window w/ Burglar Bar

Typically used as a 1st floor prop for training and gaining entry as it has the rebar frame of the burglar bar security to practice prying and cutting the frame off the window.

Break & Rake Window

Typically used as a 2nd floor prop window for training and gaining entry, this variation simply comes without a burglar bar to house rebar that acts as security bars.

Pull Window

The Pull Window is equivalent to the Break & Rake Window with Burglar Bar IN EVERY WAY except that the burglar bar is not hinged with heim joints. Instead, it has 4 wood dowel brackets for pulling the burglar bar entirely off the window frame.
Shown: without the pull-able frame affixed.
Also Shown: see video at top of page.

Description & Usage:

The Break & Rake Window with Burglar Bar is a full window breaching evolution for your team from start to finish. The Break & Rake Window is more than just a prop as it is an end-to-end solution to train a real world window scenarios from start to finish. In other words it is built to fully replicate what a first responder will experience when interfacing with a window. Its size and dimensions meet all testing standards and resetting is not only quick and easy but consistent in feedback and difficulty for the trainee to execute and the trainer to certify.

The following evolutions can be practiced with the Break & Rake Window:
- Window pane / sash clearing and blowout
- Rebar Security Bar cutting
- Rebar Security Window Frame prying/removing
- Entering and exiting through window frame

Customizable to its Location:
- First Floor: Add rebar to the Window Frame to act as security bars for cutting and prying
- Second Floor: Window Pane only for 2nd story bedroom VES

Prop Installation: easy to install and mount into any shoot house, acquired structure, or conex box training center.

Size & Dimensions:
- Minimum rough opening: 32.5” H x 35” W. Flashing provided to accommodate larger dimensions.

Window Pane & Sash Blowout:

  • The window panes (10) are made of ploycarbonate and can handle anything a Halligan or sledge can swing at them

  • Shatter proof, the window panes flex to pop out and are reinstalled with minimal effort by manually popping them back in.

  • Pin the sash using wooden dowels. Utilize 1/2” to 5/8” to change the tension levels along with different types of wood.

Burglar Bar Prop - Rebar Cutting:

  • Mounting, rebar gauge choice, and environment of the Burglar Bar all factor into the main goal: stressing good saw position to allow students to gain confidence in their ability to get window coverings off of any escape route.

  • Replicates a burglar bar with ability to attack from multiple angles and methods

  • Utilizes 1/2” - 5/8” rebar

  • Quick reset for repetitive training and technique

Resetting for Multi-Use Training: Unscrew tension levers, slide remaining length of rebar into cutting position, and retighten.

Burglar Bar Prop - Frame Prying:

  • Set it with 1x2’s to pry window frame off of structure to open space further for ventilation and entrance.

  • The sash (cross beam) is set with 1/2” - 5/8” dowels and can be cammed with a Halligan or hit equally with it, a sledge, or axe.

Also Mount it Vertically

Yes, this photo is from a fire training facility. However, the following is something to note for your training facility.

The Break & Rake Window is typically mounted with the sash running horizontally. However, mounting it vertically is another viable option. When installing it, rotate the frame 90 degrees so the sash runs top to bottom.

The mechanics of breaking and raking the window and sash shift drastically when going through the evolution with a vertical sash vs. a horizontal sash. Due to multiple variables that would force a right side or left side of window breach, the evolution quickly becomes left handed vs. right handed or strong side vs. weak side.

Whichever you choose, it is something to consider in your training infrastructure and culture. And most importantly, it is an evolution you don’t want to experience the first time at an actual event.

Now go breach some windows.
