Breaching & BBQ - as Told by Santa Clara Police Dept. - Santa Clara, CA

Exactly as it sounds. Breaching & BBQ is our way of giving back to the first responder community in the form of training on our forcible entry infrastructure at our HQ in Rancho Cordova, CA. We host one Friday each month for government agencies to attend.

First responders arrive at 8:30am. Brief begins at 9:00am. Coffee served and pastries in hand, we go over tools and usage, building construction, doors and locks, and everything in between. Then we get to work with hands-on training. Our structure is learn-by-doing not learn-by-watching and listening. In the environment we provide, we expect a drastic learning curve and want first responders to try out new and unknown tools and techniques. The goal is to stratify the spectrum of skill set throughout the day so that attendees work on the gaps they have and hone their craft. Sense of humor, intensity, and open dialogue are must-haves while the music is chugging.

Maximum ~10 per class. We aim to keep it small for the instructor ratio and number of reps attendees can obtain. But class size can be adjusted accordingly as we tend to have multiple agencies attending simultaneously.

We run through every door scenario and lock mechanism utilizing tools you bring and tools we have onsite that we believe are ideal. Depending on time and energy we may breach other props like windows and saw skills (commercial door prop / Roll-Up Doors), but typically there are scenarios agencies want to set up to run through, primarily door related.

For the most part, we train until you drop. Or in other words, until you get enough reps in that you are satisfied and have the confidence to continue working the skillset when you return to your department. Never have we had a training event where the attendees wished they could have had MORE reps.

Once complete, lunch is served. Onsite, we smoke ribs, tri-tip, chicken, any combination thereof with the sides to accompany. Hang out. Eat. Stay for as long as you like. Sometimes conversation gets going and we head back to the Conex Box Training Center to troubleshoot ideas and tactics further.

Somewhere in the schedule of events listed above, the dynamic shifts, the trash talking ensues, the intensity ramps, and the next thing you know we suddenly all become best friends.
