New Product - The VES Slot Window - Smoke Shutter
Smoke shutters are on burn buildings. We know this. VES Windows are not on burn buildings because smoke shutters are needed to keep the smoke inside said building. But what if we could have both? When not burning, a smoke shutter opening can be utilized to house a VES Window and run the full vent, enter, search training evolution.
Enter the VES Slot Window - Smoke Shutter. It was designed for the new El Dorado Hills Fire Training Center. When the smoke shutters are not being utilized, our VES Slot Window can be inserted into any of the openings with the same dimensions. Therefore, the VES allows first responders to repurpose smoke shutter openings for more than just smoke by utilizing the existing frame.
The VES Window slots overtop the window sill and then clamps to the walls of the burn building from the outside in. The threaded rod pulls the yellow L bracket on the outside facing side and the wingnut on the inside facing side screws to tighten and sandwich the VES frame to the actual window frame. The cotter pin on the threaded rod ensures you don't over loosen the wingnuts and the orange stopper prevents any bumping into to cause injury. Since the window is clamped on the inside of the building structure, it will never "fall" outwardly, but inwardly only.
When it needs to be removed, simply unscrew the wingnuts until the bite on the building structure’s window frame releases. Handles are welded into the VES’s frame so lifting to remove and reinstall is accomplished easily with two people.
Being load bearing, the full VES evolution can then be executed on a 1st, 2nd, or higher story building thereby creating a very consistent and measurable training scenario. It could be stated that with a building as large as the training buildings in the EDH Training Center, one could leave the VES in place while smoking out the building with all the other smoke shutters in play. So a realistic training scenario could be executed rather than using a real store-bought window instead.
